WATCH BOONE TAKE INFIELD HERE
Boone will come into this one the heavy favorite. Chariton is the only team from any class to advance to the state tournament with a losing record. And they are playing a very strong Boone team. I haven’t seen the Toreador’s play yet this season, but with Josh Fran and Blane Reutter on the hill and Mike Eckhart and Ben Byriel at the plate, they look like a dynamic and exciting team on paper. Chariton’s Coady Lundy is bringing a powerful stick to Des Moines. He has nine home runs this season. If the Toreador’s contain him than they should have a good chance to win this game and advance to the semifinals on Friday.
This game will begin a noon, and I will keep a live blog throughout…

1st Inning:
Top: Chariton pitcher Tyler Woollums comes to Des Moines sporting a very high 4.85 E.R.A. However he mowed through the top of the Toreador’s lineup with efficiency, setting them down in order.
Bottom: Blane Reutter comes into the game with very impressive numbers. A 1.39 E.R.A. and an 11-0 record on the season, he struck out Boone star Coady Lundy to get out if the inning setting the chargers down in order.

2nd Inning:
Top: Mike Eckhart started the inning with a single through the right side of the infield, which was followed by a Damon Moran fly-out to the pitcher on a bunt attempt. Eckhart would than steal second putting him in scoring position and Ruetter was hit by a pitch. Ben Byriel would than single to center scoring Eckhart easily. Andrew Burge went down looking after two controversial strike calls. Ryan Titman than hit into a fielder’s choice to the second basemen but the shortstop was unable to handle the exchange. The dropped ball allowed Ruetter to score the second run of the inning for Boone.
Bottom: Reutter continued to impress in the second, the second out came by a tremendous play by second basemen Ryan Titman, it would have been Web Gem worthy on Sportscenter. The next batter went down on three strikes, and the Chargers remain hitless in this game.

3rd Inning:
Top: Cris Ely and Josh Frank both grounded out to Chariton third basemen Andrew Quillen, and than Mike Eckhart flyed out to the shortstop in foul territory. Not an easy task to set down the Toreador’s two through four hitters in order, but Woollums did it.
Bottom: Andrew Quillen went down looking, which was followed by Tyler Knust swinging at strike three. Jacob Kaska also went down swinging; meaning Ruetter struck out the side and keeps the Chargers hitless through three.

5th inning:
Top: Logan Busch and Chris Ely reached base on balls, which was followed by a Josh Frank infield single from a bunt that scored Busch. Eckhart than doubled to deep left-center scoring two more for the Toreador’s and Damon Moran once again doubled, this time to left scoring Eckhart and giving Boone the 7-0 advantage. Ben Byriel hit a shot to right-center, scoring Moran and the massacre is officially on. Boone leads 8-0. Dustin Harberts will now be pitching for the Chargers. The next two batters would reach base on balls, loading the bases for Logan Busch who singled through the infiled on the left side, giving Boone the 9-0 advantage and keeping the bases loaded for Ely. He singled into left field and scored two more, giving Boone the 11-0 lead. Frank hit softly to the shortstop who couldn’t handle the hop, and the bases were loaded for Eckhart, who hit a deep sac-fly to right field, scoring yet another run for Boone.
