FINAL 

Boone (37-4) 2 vs. Norwalk (27-13) 4

 

1st Inning:

 

Top: Norwalk pitcher Kole Klocko set down the first three Boone batters in order, and with very few pitches.

 

Bottom: Boone brings Josh Frank to the mound today; he’s sporting a 1.3 E.R.A. this season in 65 innings of work. Kyle Simpson is the first ballplayer to reach base today. He was walked on four pitches. Matt Dermody would than single to right and Simpson was held up at third. Frank set the next two batters down on strikes to get out of the inning unscathed.

2nd Inning:

 

Top: Mike Eckhart was hit by a Kole Klocko pitch to start the inning. The next batter Damon Moran flied-out to Damon Moran in center-field. Eckhart was than able to steal second base relatively easily. Blane Ruetter went down swinging and the ball got away from Norwalk catcher Chase Breeser allowing Eckhart to advance to third. That would bring Ben Byriel up with two outs, and he walked. The next batter Andrew Burge wasn’t able to bat because Eckhart was caught in a pickle between third and home and was tagged out after a lengthy chase.

 

Bottom: Norwalk was able to get leadoff man Travis Mateer on with a walk, and than Nathan Jones set down a bunt that was played perfectly by Frank and Boone was about a split second away from turning a double play. The next batter Chase Breeser was than hit by a pitch which brought up pitcher Kole Klocko with runners at first and second with one out. Klocko would pop out to second base bringing up the top of the order for the Warriors. Michael McGonegle grounded out sharply to Frank for out number three.

Last Update, 12:25 p.m.

3rd Inning:

Top: Norwalk’s McGonegle made a nice play at short to get Boone’s Andrew Burge for the first out of the inning. That was followed by a phenomenal play by Nathan Jones at second base to get Ryan Titman for out number two. Boone was than back to the top of their order and Logan Busch was able to reach after a fielding error by McGonegle. Busch would than get himself in scoring position after he stole second base. Chris Ely became the third out after he skied one to shallow right that was caught by Simpson.

 

Bottom: Kyle Simpson starts the bottom of the third with an infield single. The next batter Matt Dermody would than go down on strikes, his bat has been struggling now both tournament games. Erik Smith hit a chopper to Blane Ruetter that advanced Simpson to second for Marcus Littleton. He was walked after he saw about 10 Frank pitches. The next batter Travis Mateer grounded out to shortstop Damon Moran who got the force out at second for out number two.

Last Update, 12:41 p.m.

4th Inning:

 

Top: Josh Frank’s bunt attempt was fielded and thrown cleanly by Klocko for out number one. Mike Eckhart than lined out sharply to Matt Dermody in center. The next batter Damon Moran was out number three after he popped-out to first base.

 

Bottom: Josh Frank walked Nathan Jones and Norwalk has yet another lead-off runner on. Breeser would than lay down a bunt and Ben Byriel was able to get the lead runner at second with a laser of a throw. Kole Klocko than helped himself out ripping a double to right-center scoring Nathan Jones. Immediately after that McGonegle hit a one-run single making the score 2-0 Norwalk. Kyle Simpson bunted to Josh Frank who got the lead runner at second. Matt Dermody would than break out of his slump and smash a double that two-hopped to the left-field fence, that scored Norwalk’s third run of the inning. Blane Ruetter would than move from first to pitcher; he threw a perfect game in Boone’s quarterfinal on Tuesday. Eric Smith than smacked an R.B.I. double to deep left-center giving Norwalk the 4-0 advantage. Marcus Littleton flied-out to short ending the inning.

Last update, 1:00 p.m.

5th Inning:

 

Top: Blane Ruetter grounded out to short and than Ben Byriel laid down a bunt that went for a base hit breaking up Kole Klocko’s no-hitter. Byriel was than able to steal second base.  Andrew Burge than lined out to shortstop Michael McGonegle who was able to take three steps forward and tap second before Byriel could get back for the double play.

 

Bottom: Travis Mateer was retired after one pitch to start the bottom of the fifth. The next batter Nathan Jones was than walked and than picked off by Ruetter at first. On the next pitch Chase Breeser went down swinging for out number three.

Last Update, 1:11 p.m.

6th Inning:

 

Top: Ryan Titman flied-out to shortstop for out number one. Logan Busch was than walked by Klocko. The Next Batter Chris Ely than singled to right advancing Titman to second. The next two batters were retired by Klocko and he once again gets out of the inning unscathed.

 

Bottom: Ruetter retired Norwalk in order in the sixth. It’s now do or die for the Torredors.

Last Update, 1:26 p.m.

7th Inning:

 

Top: Damon Moran grounded out to short to begin the top of the seventh. That was followed by a Blane Reutter single to right and an Andrew Burge R.B.I. double. Ryan Titman than hit an R.B.I. single up the middle which prompted Norwalk coach to replace Klocko with Pittsburgh Pirates draftee Matt Dermody who came into pitch from center field. Dermody was able to Logan Busch to hit a dribbler right back to him for out number three and a ticket to the 3A title game. The Warriors will play the winner of Storm Lake and Denison Schleswig tomorrow night at 6 p.m.
