High School Hypothesis: Week 4

              Last Week             Overall

Will:         2-4                          7-9

TJ:            4-2                          12-3

WAUKEE (2-1) vs. FORT DODGE (3-0)

WILL PICKS-WAUKEE

This is the first conference game for both squads and I think it could be one of (if not the) best game on Friday night.  The rushing attack of Fort Dodge’s Jontel Clayton versus the versatile attack of Waukee’s quarterback, Chad Owens goes head to head in this CIML Iowa Conference matchup.  This is the year Waukee stands alone atop the CIML Iowa Conference, the Warriors win this one on the road (HUGE!).

TJ PICKS-WAUKEE

The Dodgers may have the better record, but Waukee has the more impressive resume in this game. If you’ll remember the Warriors only loss was a week one heartbreaker in OT vs. a stacked Ankeny team. Since that loss, they’ve been rolling, with wins over Newton and SE Polk by a combined score of 77-9, yikes. And Will’s right, Waukee QB Chad Owens is hard to go against. After three games, he’s third in the Iowa Conference in passing yards with 388 and he leads the conference in rushing yards with 458. Fort Dodge will put up a fight, but the Warriors will Dodge them.

PERRY (2-1) vs. CARROLL (3-0)

WILL PICKS-CARROLL

The boys from Carroll are on a mission this year.  To become the FIRST ever Carroll Tiger team to make it to the UNI-Dome and win state!  Last year’s record was not a fluke, this team is for real, and the Tigers take this one at home.  The Tigers don’t have a lot of stats that wow you, they just find ways to win ball games.

TJ PICKS-CAROLL

This will be a pretty good game, and I had a tough time picking a winner. My deciding factor was the home advantage Carroll will have, and I’ve experienced the intensity of the Carroll fans, I’m counting on them to propel the Tigers to 4-0.

BONDURANT-FARRAR (2-1) vs. COLFAX-MINGO (2-1)

WILL PICKS-BONDURANT-FARRAR

As much allegiance as I have for Colfax-Mingo (being the site of the first ever Wild Card Game), it’s hard for me to choose them in this one.  I haven’t seen Bondurant-Farrar play in person this year (yet), but I have heard rave reviews.  Don’t get me wrong, I like both teams, but I am going with yet again another road squad this week.  Bondurant-Farrar with the win…

TJ PICKS- BONDURANT-FARRAR

Blue Jay starting quarterback Ryley Pruismann has been out since the second game of the season, however junior Taylor Sanderson has filled in quite nicely throwing for 224 yards and three TD’s last week.  Colfax Mingo’s Brandon Kolo will try and contain that Blue-Jay backfield; he has 9 tackles for loss this season. I’m going to say Bondurant-Farrar in a closer game than people may think.

Colo-NESCO (0-3) vs. Madrid (3-0)

WILL PICKS-MADRID

I think this game will be over in the first period.  I’ve got the Tigers easily Friday night in the Jungle.

TJ PICKS-MADRID

Colo-NESCO hasn’t had a whole lot to cheer about this season. Meanwhile Madrid has had a lot to cheer about, outscoring their opponents 162-32 this season, goo! This trend will continue in this one, Madrid rolls.

OTTUMWA (3-0) vs. ANKENY (3-0)

WILL PICKS-ANKENY

How about this match up!?!?!?!?! I can’t wait to see these two squads strap on the pads and go at each other.  Ottumwa caught my attention in week one of the season when they went into Southeast Polk and buried the Rams.  Led in rushing by Ben Lott, the Bulldogs will again win the CIML Metro, but can they pick up a crucial road victory (AGAIN!) against a CIML Central Conference foe.  Tyler Leo seems like he has been playing for Ankeny for nearly 8 years now!  I’ve got Ankeny at home takin’ care of business.  I’ve got to play up the Ankeny/Dowling match up; I want both teams to be undefeated!

TJ PICKS-OTTUMWA

Well, I figured Will and I need to disagree on at least one game, so this is it. Ottumwa will be jacked for this game vs. the high-profile Ankeny Hawks. Seniors Ben Lott and Justin Rusch will need to both have big games running the ball. And QB Adam Goodvin needs to get his season on track in this one if the Bulldogs are going to pull the upset. I’m taking Ottumwa at home to upset the Hawks, in a close game.
