HIGH SCHOOL HYPOTHESIS: WEEK 5
Last Week: Will…5-0 TJ…4-1
Overall: Will…12-9 TJ…16-4
North (0-4) vs. Hoover (0-4)
WILL PICKS-NORTH
This game could determine who wins their only regular season game of 2009. I cannot base my pick on stats, or anything else, but I am going with North. For no apparent reason at all.
TJ PICKS-HOOVER
Will, you picked North because you knew I would pick Hoover. However you were wrong, not even a Hoover alum can take the Huskies in this one. North put up 22 first half points last week. Hoover hasn’t scored that yet this season. Go Hoover, but North wins this annual “toilet bowl.”
Centerville (4-0) vs. Norwalk (2-2)
WILL PICKS-CENTERVILLE
Centerville got revenge against Pella last year for their only 2008 loss a couple of weeks ago. This week Tanner Susin (626 yards, 13 TD’s) brings his run game to Norwalk, and I think Centerville leaves undefeated.
TJ PICKS-CENTERVILLE
Last time I picked Norwalk in an upset, they came far from it. Norwalk’s Teagan Brown and Centerville’s Tanner Susin will be trying to one-up each other from the running back position, but that should be the only intriguing part of this game. Centerville wins big.
Interstate 35, Truro (2-2) vs. Des Moines Christian (1-3)
WILL PICKS-DES MOINES CHRISTIAN
I think this game has the “upset” bug written all over it. Des Moines Christian has lost three games this year by a combined SEVEN points. I’m not sure how much “upset” this game has on it, but based on the records, if Des Moines Christian won, it would be considered that. I covered this team a couple of weeks ago for the Wild Card Game and a player to watch is Seth Vande Voort. He is the leading rusher/tackler for Des Moines Christian.
TJ PICKS-INTERSTATE 35
Interstate 35 has a Seth Vande Voort of their own. Junior Ethan Calvert leads the team in rushing with 532 yards and tackles with 37. I’m not sure how much of an advantage Des Moines Christian gets from playing at home, but I don’t think it’s enough to overcome this Roadrunner team. Interstate-35 wins in a close one.
Coon Rapids-Bayard (4-0) vs. Glidden-Ralston (3-1)
WILL PICKS-COON RAPIDS-BAYARD
Coon Rapids-Bayard scores points, A TON OF THEM!! 66.75 per game to be exact. That’s probably a good reason as to why they are undefeated. Glidden-Ralston lost their only game by only six points (18-12 vs. CAM, Anita) and could end up hosting the Wild Card Game of the week Friday night. Michael Schwenk straight has video game stats so far this year for CR-B. The junior signal-caller has thrown for 975 yards and 24 touchdowns! I’ve got Coon Rapids-Bayard going on the road (and scoring 80 points) and picking up the victory.
TJ PICKS-GLIDDEN-RALSTON
Here is my rare upset pick. It’s not only CR-B that can score, Glidden-Ralston put up 80 points in their opening game this season. Thus far the Crusaders have been playing less than stellar opponents; I think that will catch up with them this week. The Wildcats have a home game and use it to their advantage.
Johnston (3-1) vs. Urbandale (4-0)
WILL PICKS-URBANDALE
This game is an easy one for me. Johnston has played only one team with a winning record (Marshalltown) and lost to the Bobcats 21-17. Urbandale wins by riding the back of Jevoury Wedderburn who had a MONSTER game last week (326 yards, 3 TD’s)…this is one of the biggest rivalry games in the CIML.
TJ PICKS-JOHNSTON
Earlier this season I asked Johnston linebacker Travis Merrit who Johnston’s biggest rivalry was and he surprised me and said Dowling. He might want to change his answer after this one. I foresee a close one in Urbandale. The J-Hawks love to run the ball with Jevoury Wedderburn and the Dragons love to throw the ball with Alex Greig at QB and JJ Amick and Blake Skartvedt his targets. So, being a former QB myself in my playing days, I’m naturally going to take the Dragons in a close one.
