High School Hypothesis: Week 3
Last Week: Overall:
TJ 5-0 8-1
Will 3-2 5-4
HOOVER (0-2) vs. JOHNSTON (2-0)
WILL: JOHNSTON
JOHNSTON. I don’t even need to support this pick, the Dragons roll with ease.
TJ: JOHNSTON
I got some wiggle-room in the standings, so I really, really would like to go with my alma mater Hoover. But we all know that would be borderline crazy. Go Huskies, but Johnston will win this one in the first quarter.
MARSHALLTOWN (2-0) vs. VALLEY (1-1)
WILL PICKS: VALLEY
This is a tough game to pick for me. I think that Marshalltown will continue to toss the ball around the field as if they were playing a quick recess game of 500, but will Valley come to this battle with a chip on their shoulders? Or will the Tigers still be bitten from their blow-out loss at the hands of Dowling Catholic?
No more Chanse Creekmur at QB for the Bobcats (basketball?), no chance for M-Town to move past Valley. I’ve got the Tigers in this one.
TJ: VALLEY
Valley is not a happy team right now, to answer your question Will, yes; they will come out with a chip on their shoulder. I have to think Valley rolls in this one, as in blowout.
GRINNELL (2-0) vs. NORWALK (1-1)
WILL: NORWALK
Norwalk lost a tough battle to Perry last week (35-28) and Grinnell has won easily in their first two contests…does anyone smell that? It’s the UPSET BUG!!!! Norwalk’s Teagan Brown rushed for over 200 yards last week and Kole Klocko (#2 pitcher on state baseball squad) is playing quarterback. Norwalk gets a win at home over the Tigers.
TJ: NORWALK
How about Norwalk RB Teagan Brown, in two games he has 5 TD’s and 377 yards. I’ve grown to thoroughly like to athletic program that Al Lammers has built in Norwalk, and although, like Will said, it would probably be an upset, I’m going to have to go with Norwalk in this one too.
WEST MARSHALL (0-2) vs. PCM-MONROE (1-1)
WILL: PCM
I didn’t think that PCM would spoil Pella Christians fun last week (opening of new stadium), but they did 33-7. West Marshall has had two heartbreaking losses to start the season. They played Aplington-Parkersburg very well last week losing 15-9. I can’t count out the Mustangs this week though, PCM wins this one.
TJ: WEST MARSHALL
I picked PCM last week and they boosted me in the standings, so I feel bad for picking against them. But this is my instinct of the week. West Marshall has lost two close ones, including the 15-9 emotional roller-coaster against Aplington-Parkersburg. Drake and Dalton Ferch will go off and the Trojans will finally be in the win coumn.
MADRID (2-0) vs. MARTENSDALE-ST. MARYS (0-2)
WILL: MADRID
This game is much like the first one. Madrid rolls into Martensdale-St. Marys and burns the Blue Devils. It should be another day at the office for Louie Wickett and Timon Bell who have combined for 572 yards and 12 TD’s in their first two games!!
TJ: MADRID
Madrid has over 700 rushing yards in two games. How Am I supposed to pick against that, especially against an unproven and winless Blue Devils team. Madrid in a BLOW OUT.
PELLA (2-0) vs. CENTERVILLE (2-0)
WILL PICKS: PELLA
This game is the battle of the defenses. Pella has given up 14 points this year, while Centerville has given up 18 points (including a shutout last week). This game is a choice for the Wild Card Game of the Week, but I have to say, I think that Pella pulls it out in Centerville. Blaine Forsythe is just too much, Pella wins this one.
TJ: CENTERVILLE
EDIT: yesyesyes I was misinformed and apologize for the false information below. I stick by the original pick of Centerville to win the game.
I realize that Pella is the Yankees of 3A, which makes it difficult for me to make this pick. Centerville didn’t win a game last season and they are 2-0, that’s remarkable to me. So although in theory and on paper Pella should just obliterate the Big Reds, I’m going with the monumental upset here. Jordan McCoy, Tanner Susin, Tyler Gray, Blake McPherren, Mike England, Ethan Moorman…I need big games from each and every one of you if this pick should become a reality.
