Prairie Valley QB Cole Jaeschke and RB Jon Elmore became the first teammates in Iowa high school football history to pass the 4,000 career yard mark in the same game. They did so in last Friday's 41-6 victory over Ogden, moving the Warriors to 7-0 on the season. Ankeny Christian Academy's junior quarterback is amonst the state leaders in passing, where he ranks eighth in the state in yards as well as rushing, where he ranks 22nd in the state with almost 800 yards. He's also a star on the hardwood where he averaged 24 points a game last winter as a sophomore. I went to Ankeny last week to get to know the star athlete a little. There was a battle for the starting quarterback position at Dowling Catholic. Until Michael Hudson broke loose against rival West Des Moines Valley.Hudson, a senior quarterback, scored on a 53-yard run on just the second play from scrimmage for the Maroons on his way to a HUGE day. Hudson had just 13 carries, but made the most of each touch, turning those 13 carries into 137 yards and a touchdown. The senior also had a big day throwing the ball as well, Hudson was just about perfect on the night going 6-9 for 131 yards and 3 touchdowns (0 interceptions). Hudson found his favorite target, Drew Zaun, three times for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns. With his stellar play, Hudson passed and ran his way all over the Valley Tiger defense for a 44-14 win. The Ankeny Christian Academy Eagles are only in their second year on the gridiron, but they are off to a fast start in '09.
After defeating Twin Cedars 70-0 in Week 0, the Eagles took care of business against Moravia 56-14 in Week 1. Those are two dominate victories, especially in 8-man football where there are as many points being scored as there are blades of grass on the field.
ACA-ICA (Ankeny Christian Academy/Iowa Christian Academy) went 5-5 in their inuagural season in 2008 and are kicking off the '09 season in great form!
The Eagles are this week's KCCI's High School Playbook "Team Of The Week."
