CIML QB CHRONICLES

METRO

School             Player                     Attempts/Comp        Yards  TD      INT

Ottumwa         Adam Goodvin, Sr.             69-131             1226    10        8

East                 Dorean Ballentine, Sr.         55-114             1041     6         4 *Ballentine also ran for 441 yards and 8 TD’s*

Hoover            Ben Markey, Jr.                  80-158               1036    10      12

North              Weston McPhee, Jr.            95-193              1009     4         14

Roosevelt        Tajh Washington, Jr.            52-92                 504     0         6

Lincoln            Nate Crane, Sr.                              26-71       225     3         6

It’s not every year that the Metro has four quarterbacks go for 1000 yards. And two of those guys, Hoover’s Ben Markey and North’s Weston McPhee will be returning next season. The classic argument will be that these Des Moines QB’s racked up their yards against second string defenses in the fourth quarter. But I say yards are yards.

1st Team QB-Dorean Ballentine

2nd Team QB-Adam Goodvin

IOWA

School              Player                       Attempts/Comp      Yards      TD   Int

Marshalltown Chanse Creekmur, Sr.              140-248           2115    20       8

Waukee           Chad Owens, Sr.                     81-153             1381   11       6 *Owens also lead his team in rushing with 1310, he also had 19 rushing TD’s*

Valley              Taylor Nelson, Sr.                   107-158           1247    12       6

Mason City     Lee Gealow, Sr.                      59-155             1047    13     11

Ames               Kyle Anderson, Jr.                  73-108             964      13       5

Fort Dodge     Jay Johnson, Sr.                      47-123             629              6

Chanse Creekmur is the only 4A QB to go over 2,000 yards this season, and it’s the second season in a row that he has accomplished this. Chad Owens is the king of the new-wave of dual threat QB’s with an astonishing 1,310 rushing yards. And Taylor Nelson was once again pin-point with his throws, completing 68 percent of his throws. Ames junior Kyle Anderson put up impressive numbers for a guy who still has a whole season yet to play.

1st Team QB-Chad Owens

2nd Team QB-Chanse Creekmur

CENTRAL

School            Player                             Attempts/Comp   Yards   TD      Int

Johnston         Alex Greig, Sr.                       137-256         1865      14        6

SE Polk           Kody Ingle, Sr.                       124-233          1536     14        5

Dowling          Michael Hudson, Sr.                65-114             1221    13        3 *Hudson lead his team with 450 rushing yards, he also had 7 rushing TD’s*

Urbandale       Chad Gilson, Sr                      51-40               522       6         0 *Gilson led his team in rushing with 780 yards and 9 TD’s*

Indianola         Marshall Mahr, Sr.                  23-47              370               4

Ankeny           Joel Lanning, Fr.                      16-24               307              1 *Lanning rushed for 387 yards and 7 TD’s*

The Central boasts two starting QB’s who rushed for more yards than they threw for, Urbandale’s Chad Gilson and Ankeny’s freshman QB Joel Lanning. Michael Hudson also established himself as a dual-threat player; he led his team in rushing with 450 yards. Kody Ingle came back again to have an impressive season, although his team wasn’t as successful as last year. And once again Johnston had a QB with All-State type numbers.

1st Team QB-Michael Hudson

2nd Team QB-Alex Greig

CIML 1st Team QB

CHAD OWENS-How can you deny 2,700 total yards and 30 total touchdowns? Owen’s numbers are enough to make a sports fan’s head spin.

CIML 2nd Team QB

CHANSE CREEKMUR-Over 2,000 yard is quite the milestone in Iowa high school football, and Creekmur’s done it twice. Leading a team to an undefeated regular season is quite the milestone too. Strange to think he’s going to Santa Clara not for football, but basketball.

CIML 3rd Team QB

MICHAEL HUDSON-His passing yards aren’t as lofty as some other guys in the CIML, but 1,200 yards is still pretty darn good. There’s also the leading his team in rushing, and 20 total touchdowns to only three interceptions, and oh yeah, leading his team to an undefeated regular season.

Honorable Mention: Dorean Ballentine, Alex Greig, Alex Goodvin, Kody Ingle, Taylor Nelson, Chad Gilson

If Monday's Mtown-Waukee game results are the close to the same as the first meeting, there is no way Chad Owens is 1st team material. He must put up good numbers against a very good Mtown defense.
